  1. Does anyone know of a website that sells a model that could be used as a mastodon? What about centaurs? I know Reaper makes a centaur model but it's not what I'm looking for. Most of the centaur models don't look like they're in a war.
I would appreciate any and all help.

    1. For the Mastodon, you will have to convert, since there was never an official model made for Celtos. I use Confrontation Centaurs myself, can be bought from Cadwallon (though be aware they are most likely recasts).

  2. Ok, thanks for the reply. However, I understand I'll have to convert a mastodon, but from what? I know there was a Chaos War Mammoth, but that is slightly out of my budget. Also, while the centaurs could work, they still don't have the feel to them. I am currently using Warlord Celts as they work really well and are easy to paint, and I have bought the last 3 Fenbeasts from Dark Shadows on the internet, by the looks of it. That is my army, but I am looking for some centaurs. Any help would be appreciated. Also, thank you for writing the warbook, it works very well.

    1. That might be trickier. If you google "Celtos Mastodon" you will get images of a scratchbuilt one, but in general, any suitable monster toy would work, with added balsawood fort he howdah.
For Centaurs, Otherworld miniatures makes 4 with a Celtic feel, I would recommend those. Otherwise, just google "28mm centaurs" and pick your fancy.
Note that I am currently working on an Albion update which will add some new units and characters, and it will also make Centaurs into cavalry to make it easier for people to find suitable models - very few are fitted to go on an MC base.

    2. The otherworld centaurs may work, thank you for suggesting them. The mastodon, I recognize the picture from the warbook. The model itself looks formidable, but I don't have the time or effort to create it from scratch. I look forwards to the update. If you could, please give some advice on how to get the Albion book from BattleScribe.

  3. I look forwards to the update for the warbook. However, the few games I have played, the Oathsworn (Noble Warriors in earlier updates) don't have nearly as much sticking power with low armour. I don't know if anyone else has contacted you about this, but they can never actually hold an assault against a decent sized unit, they seem to either wipe them out on the charge or do little then get whittled away. Is there something I am doing wrong, or are the Oathsworn in need of more defensive power?

    1. They are not meant to be a great unit on defence, no Albion unit really is. They have the same defence as Empire swordsmen, but strike a bit harder. I might be lowering their cost a bit in the upcoming update, but in general, they are not a fantastic unit meant to compete with other armies' elites (except humans). Albion in general is a lot more about offence than defensive, and using guerilla tactics to flank the enemy. A bit like Beastmen, in short.

    2. Ok, thank you. I had not considered that in depth. What tactics would you suggest against Skaven? I know from watching games that Skaven are great en masse, and are easy to kill but there are simply so many of them. My main opponent has lots of Skavenslaves, clanrats and stormvermin, but that is really it. I know I am being a bit pestering, but what Albion units would you suggest against them? I also play against Dark Elves, which I understand are similar to Skaven.
      Thank you for your help

    3. I would think most infantry units would be rather useful due to Skaven's low T and armour, and the Albion units are very low in cost. Woad Raiders should do the trick, as should cavalry and chariots to take out the Skaven support units. Sidhe could also be very useful to flank and take out the rank bonus of the units.
The main problem to deal with tend to be the doomwheel and Abomination, but you do have Giants and stone throwers to deal with them.

    4. I agree with everything in the last post, defiantly food for thought. in addition, for Woad Raiders would you suggest another hand weapon or shields? I would think hand weapons for more choppy, but shields means more survivability. Same goes for Oathsworn, shields or great weapons? Shields with light armour and woad paint increases their survivability but great weapons gives them strength 6. I really can't choose!

    5. Woad Raiders will lose the option for additional HW's in the update, and will have shields as basic. Spears will be an option for those who want it. In this case spears will be more useful as long as you win your combats and they stay frenzied, because they don't get the parry bonus then.
With Oathsworn, it depends a lot of the situation and what other units you have. Swordmaidens would be a better choice with great weapons in most cases, but they lack the staying power of Oathsworn. I prefer shields on my Oathsworn personally.

  4. Hay, Mathias, would you be willing to consider bumping up the giant's toughness to 6 in the new edition? Or give it some forms of scaly skin / natural armour save?

    1. Depends on how Giants will work then. Currently just following the official format so it's on par with the other army books.

  5. Ok, however looking through the Albion book, the centaur has a t6 and giants seem to be significantly easy to kill with any heavy gun. Perhaps the upgraded toughness could be a racial bonus to Albion? Thanks for any help with this.

    1. A Centaur only have T5, which will go down to T4 in the planned update. Giants have always been too easy to kill imo, but I still have to adhere to the same rules when it comes to the Giants, since the rest of the rules are the same. For the time being, they will be limited to T5.

  6. Hey Matthias, do you know of a site that sells pixie/ fairy swarm miniatures? I found the perfect one on warfairy.net, but that site seems to not be available anymore. Can you suggest one? The majority of pixies are actually single 28mm models, as opposed to a proper swarm of smaller miniatures.

    1. Try http://www.microworldgames.com/collections/6mm-fantasy/products/pixies

Yes, it's too bad about WarFairy, I had planned to order from them as well, but I cannot hold of the site owner either. Another alternative is Wood Elf Sprites, if you have some of them lying around.

  7. Is there any chance of a giant as a lord choice or special character? The fluff implies that they have a semi seperate society to the humans and it would be great to have a Cloud-Titan to really knock some heads together.

    1. There's a plan for that in a future update, will probably be 1-2 more special characters, one of them being a Giant.

  11. What would you suggest for warriors of Danu? Also shield maidens? (Love the books)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Warriors of Danu from Confrontation might be a good fit ;)
For Swordmaidens, you have both Confrontation Fianna, and from Celtos you have official Swordmaidens (that the unit is actually based on!).

  12. Thanks a million!! (Totally looked right past the Warriors lol)

  13. Can you give a sneak peak of what will come in the next update to Albion?
It would be great if you buff halfgiants because they are underpowered to other races and make their equipment to be more fitting to miniatures (mierce for example)
Personally would love to see semi-special infantry (better than warband warriors but weaker than oathsworn) without light armor as basic, with lot of weapon options.
Also a question; what minis are the best for druid neophytes and sidhes?

    1. Nothing special, just some minor fixes and making it compatible with 9th ed. How do yout hink half giants are underpowered? They are based on the ogre profile and follows the same structure, and have two hand weapons and halberds like Mierce miniatures.
As for semi-elites, Woad Raider are kind of in-between ;)

For Druids, I use a mix of Celtos and Confrontation minis. For Sidhe, you could use Sidhe from Celtos, but personally I ahve not found any models that i really like yet.

    2. My bad. Mistakenly considered "Two hand weapons" as "Great weapons". I Was thinking about buffing their MS by 2 and LD by 1 and option to give them magic banner. Comparing to norse half giants they seem weaker and comparing to ogres they are too slow.

That infantry what I was thinking about could be something like Clansmen infantry, but Woad riders could fit this role if they could have Great weapons (aaand maybe +1 to I or WS :) ). Just looking for something fitting in "Brigade" Gael Bondsmen, Spearmen and Warriors, because place of Woad raiders, Warband warriors and even Oathsworn is taken by Celtic Warriors from "WarlordGames".

  14. How about this for a mastodon miniature?
    http://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php?act=pro&pre=mrm_dkl_byz_var_mbs_801_000
Also, in the bestiary section, Mastodon's have Impact Hits (2D6) whereas in the army list section they have Impact Hits (D6+1); which is the correct one?

  16. I'm not sure if anyone is responding to these messages now, but what miniatures did you have in mind for the special characters in the albion book?

I think I've managed to pair up a few-

amanthas, the huntress- brigade models (amanthas, the huntress)

Cormac Chath- Kelts of the Sessair Clan (Confrontation)- Drac Mac Syro

I don't know what models were the inspiration behind Gwenlaen the warrior queen, durak durak leader of the council, morrigan the phantom queen and conor macfeud

any help would be greatly appreciated!
