Ravening Hordes

This is a summary page of all current Ravening Hordes, until such a time where I can implement a proper sub-level dropdown menu. Unfortunately the current menu bar simply do not have the space to fit all the current headers, hence the Ravening Hordes lists will be posted here until further notice.

For newer players, "Ravening Hordes" is the name for army lists that currently do not have a finished army books. These "get-you-by" lists allow you to play the armies below with updated rules for both 8th and 9th Edition until I have the time to finish each army's complete book with background and art.

    2. Hi Mathias,

Would you accept some suggestions to add for the 8th Ed. books about units using the models from AoS, reworking some units and adding more characters? Great work so far!

  3. Hey there, Another set of comments... Looked at the Wood elf 9th ed ravening hordes. The way watcher special rule refers to a special rule from the rulebook I think you have removed, stand and and fire. The rule I also don't quite understand, multiple shots (2), so does this stack with his bow, multiple shots (2) to make multiple shots (4). Warhawk rides has a typo in the name and there is currently no option to give them a bow, which would be really handy, and they sold figures for them, I have 6

    1. I will have that fixed for the full version. Way Watchers do not fire 4 shots, but ignore the penalty for firing multiple shots instead. It's in the BRB under Multiple Shots.

  4. I think it is a bit strange that stegadons and bastiladons went to rare, the fact that stegadons start counting for hero percentage (though only possible in a >1000 point list) is also strange though, it seems more logical to make things like that work just like joining normal units of infantry or something: it just counts toward special choice but only certain types of hero or lord can join it.

  5. In my opinion, Dwarf rangers should have BS 4. All the other races have rangers or hunters or something like that (a unit specialized in range attack) hith BS 4, but not Dwarfs. And also by lore the BS 4 matches better with this unit.

    1. I agree.
And also the "relentless" rule has no sense. Dwarfs sprinting through the battlefield?

    2. That will likely happen actually.

Regarding the relentless rule, would you prefer if it worked the same as in 6th ed? The main issue for Dwarfs is that due to their speed, many Dwarf players tend to just hunker down in their deployment zone rather than attempting to move forward.

    3. the relentless rule doesnt really change much anonymus, It only lets them march when close to the enemies automatically, high leadership units are almost the same thing. It is best used to help get dwarven ranged units away from enemies who have broken your lines

    4. acerpilot ddo - I believe the original poster was referring to the fact that Mathias changed the Relentless Rule's effect from "marching is yes even when the enemy is right next to you" to "marching is x3 move for dwarves instead of x2", which is quite a significant change.

I do understand the desire to encourage dwarves to do something other than form a tiny cannon-festooned semi-circle in one corner of their deployment zone, since this is not all that fun to play against. I'm not sure how one would go about making that less mechanically optimal, however.

  6. Hello!

I just wanted to ask why did the WoC Nurgle Palanquin lose its 4W profile? Making infantry characters a bit sturdier was it's main selling point...
This way it doesn't do much apart giving infantry characters an even higher footprint (a bad thing actually) and it has going for it at the moment are its 6A with meager S3.

Also keep up the good work on these books!
I really appreciate all the effort.

    1. Hi,

The Palanquin also gives you additional ranks due to it's size, so the bigger footprint is not all bad. It also has the benefit of being one of few "mounts" that still have the troop type infantry which means that your character can still join infantry units. I'll see about dropping it in price however.

    2. I see.

But on the other hand, although due to it's size it also tends to replace and push-out a lot of high quality attacks out of its unit, and not to mention that it looks really meaty on the table :P . Definitely one of the mounts that's not easy to portray and balance either way.

      Also, thanks for the answer!

    3. put it into weaker units than you currently are, big difference

  7. Hello! A few points regarding the 8th-ed Ravening Hordes for Vampire Counts...

    1) Corpse Carts have previously been available as a special choice but they don't seem to appear as an option, excepting as a mount for necromancers - is this intended or an omission?
    2) Zombies previously had a rule that made VC magic raise them in greater numbers than other models, due to being cheaper and poorer combatants than other undead infantry - is the removal of this rule intentional?
    3) Related to the above - it's currently possible to expand Dire Wolves and Bats beyond their starting size with the corresponding vampiric power, but not Zombies or Skeletons, which there used to be options for. Is this intended?

These are minor nitpicks as I understand your main focus is probably on 9th at this point. Our gaming group is keen on your homebrew so many thanks and keep up the good work!
